Lake Bolsena
Lake Bolsena is a big, beautiful lake in Italy. It is in a place called the province of Viterbo, which is part of a region known as Tuscia. This lake is very special because it is the largest volcanic lake in all of Europe!
The lake was formed a long time ago by an old volcano called the Vulsini. Even though the volcano is no longer active, the lake still holds memories of its powerful past. Two small islands sit in the southern part of the lake. These islands were created by underwater eruptions after the land around sank down.
Lake Bolsena has an interesting shape, like an oval, and is surrounded by green hills. Many towns sit near its shores, such as Bolsena, Montefiascone, and Marta. People love to visit this lake for its calm waters and lovely views. In the summer, families come to swim and enjoy the sunny beaches.
Two special islands sit in the lake. The biggest island is called Bisentina. It has pretty gardens, old buildings, and a quiet church. The other island is Martana, which is close to Marta town and is private today. Both islands add to the lake’s magic and history.
