A classical painting from the Mannerist period depicting Lavinia, a figure from ancient Roman mythology.

Lavinia is a special character from Roman mythology. She was the daughter of two leaders named Latinus and Amata.

Lavinia became the last wife of Aeneas, a famous hero. Her story helps us learn about the beliefs and culture of ancient Rome.

Some people think Lavinia may have been inspired by a real person named Servilia Isaurica. She was someone that Emperor Augustus once planned to marry.

Lavinia appears in many books and stories. She tells her own tale in a novel by Ursula K. Le Guin called Lavinia. She is also written about in Dante's Divine Comedy and in a book called De Mulieribus Claris by Giovanni Boccaccio from Florence.
