Lilium philadelphicum
The Lilium philadelphicum, also called the wood lily, is a pretty flower that grows in many parts of North America. It has bright orange flowers with dark spots that bloom in late spring and early summer.
You can find the wood lily in places like British Columbia, Quebec, the Northeast, the Great Lakes regions, the Rocky Mountains, and the Appalachian Mountains. It grows tall, about 30 to 90 centimeters.
People love this flower for its beauty and often plant it in gardens. It is also important for bugs and birds because it gives them food and a place to live.
In Saskatchewan, the western wood lily is a special symbol and appears on the province's flag. It is protected by law, so people cannot pick or hurt these flowers.
If you have a cat, be careful around lilies. Cats can get very sick if they eat part of a lily or lick pollen from their fur. If this happens, ask a animal doctor for help right away.
