Longueuil
Longueuil is a city in Quebec, Canada. It sits on the south shore of the Saint Lawrence River, right across from Montreal.
The city was started in 1657 by Charles Le Moyne. It grew from a small village into a city in 1920. Today, Longueuil is a place where many people live and then travel to work in Montreal. The city has three parts: Le Vieux-Longueuil, Saint-Hubert, and Greenfield Park.
Longueuil is close to many other cities, like Saint-Lambert and Brossard. It is about 7 kilometres east of Montreal. The city is flat and sits in the Saint Lawrence River valley. Near the river, there used to be swamp land with forests, and some farms are still there. Longueuil also has a small island called Île Charron in the Saint Lawrence River.
Many people in Longueuil work in Montreal, but the city has jobs in different areas too. It is known for its aerospace industry. Big companies like Pratt & Whitney Canada and the Canadian Space Agency have offices there.
Longueuil has many places to enjoy nature, like Parc Marie-Victorin and Parc Michel-Chartrand. The city also has several sports teams, such as the CS Longueuil soccer team and the Longueuil Ducs baseball team.
The mayor of Longueuil is Catherine Fournier. The city has three boroughs: Le Vieux-Longueuil, Greenfield Park, and Saint-Hubert. Many people travel to Montreal each day for work, using roads like the Louis Hippolyte Lafontaine Tunnel and the Jacques Cartier Bridge.
Longueuil has schools, including campuses from Université de Sherbrooke and Université de Montréal. There are also colleges and public schools for English and French speakers.
Some famous people from Longueuil include ice hockey player Maxime Comtois and Olympic snowboarder Elizabeth Hosking. The city also has its own radio station, CHAA-FM 103.3, and newspapers like Le Courrier du Sud.
