Los Angeles Metro

The Los Angeles Metro helps people travel around Los Angeles County, California. It is the biggest public transportation system in the state of California and the second biggest in all of the United States.

Metro has many ways to get around. You can ride buses, fast buses called bus rapid transit, trains on special tracks called light rail, and very fast trains called rapid transit. Metro also helps plan big roads and train tracks in the area.

Many people use Metro. Over 300 million people rode Metro in one year, and about 900,000 people used it each day in the last part of the year. Metro started on February 1, 1993, when two groups joined together.

Metro runs many buses and trains. It also works to make transportation better for everyone by improving bike and walking paths. The main bus service is in the Los Angeles Basin, the San Fernando Valley, and parts of the San Gabriel Valley.

Metro has special trains called Metro Rail. There are four light rail lines and two rapid transit lines. The A Line goes between Pomona and Long Beach through Downtown Los Angeles. The B Line goes between North Hollywood and Downtown Los Angeles.

Metro also has fast buses called Metro Busway. The G Line runs between Chatsworth and North Hollywood. The J Line runs between El Monte, Downtown Los Angeles, and Harbor Gateway.

Most people use a TAP card to pay for rides. These cards work on Metro and many other services. Passengers can also pay with cash for some bus rides.

Metro works with police to keep passengers safe. It also has a program called Ambassadors. Ambassadors wear bright green clothes and help passengers with information and solve problems.
