Mesoamerica
Mesoamerica is a special place where many ancient cultures lived long ago. It includes parts of Mexico, all of Belize, Guatemala, El Salvador, western Honduras, and parts of Nicaragua and Costa Rica. People here were very clever. They grew food, built big cities, and made their own writing.
Fun Places and Facts
People in Mesoamerica grew tasty foods like maize, beans, and tomato. They also raised turkey and kept special dog friends. They built tall stepped pyramids for their leaders and gods. These pyramids look like big staircases reaching for the sky!
Ancient Friends
Many wonderful cultures lived in Mesoamerica. Some of the most famous were the Olmec, Maya, Zapotec, Teotihuacan, Toltec, Mixtec, and Aztec. Each group had its own way of life and stories. They made beautiful art and used special calendars to know when to plant seeds or celebrate festivals.
A Rich Land
Mesoamerica had many different lands — from warm, wet coasts to cool, rocky mountains. Rivers like the Usumacinta helped people travel and trade. Big lakes such as Lake Cocibolca and Lake Chapala were home to many fish and birds. The Mesoamerican Barrier Reef System made the seas colorful and full of sea creatures.
People in Mesoamerica loved to trade. They shared things like cotton, cacao, and shiny stones. They even used cacao beans like money! Their cities had big markets where everyone could find something interesting.
