Mexico City
Mexico City is the capital and the biggest city of Mexico. It is also the largest city in North America. This amazing city is very important for culture and business around the world. It sits in the Valley of Mexico on a high plateau, 2,240 meters (7,350 feet) above sea level.
Mexico City is one of the oldest capital cities in the Americas. It was first built by the Mexica people around 1325 on a group of islands in Lake Texcoco. They called it Tenochtitlan. After many years, the city grew very big and became very important.
Today, Mexico City is a busy place with many people. It has 16 areas called boroughs, and each borough has many smaller parts called neighborhoods. In 2020, about 9.2 million people lived in the city. This makes it the biggest city in Mexico and the second largest city where people speak Spanish, after Lima, Peru.
Mexico City has many modern buildings and also many old, beautiful places. It is a center for culture, with art museums, theaters, and music performances. The city has delicious food, like tacos and enchiladas, and many places to try them. People love to visit Mexico City for its history, its food, and its fun activities.
The city has many ways to get around, like a big subway system, buses, and even bike-sharing programs. Mexico City International Airport is one of the busiest airports in the world, making it easy for visitors to come and explore.
Mexico City is also known for its parks and green spaces. Chapultepec Park is very famous, with museums, ponds, and the Chapultepec Zoo. Other parks include Alameda Central, Parque México, and Xochimilco Ecological Park.
Mexico City has a warm climate with two main seasons: a wet summer and a dry winter. The temperature usually ranges from 12 to 16 °C (54 to 61 °F). It rains mostly from May through October, with July being the wettest month. Snow is very rare, last falling in 1967.
Mexico City is a wonderful place to visit, with a rich history, amazing food, and lots of things to do. Whether you are interested in history, art, food, or just having fun, Mexico City has something for everyone.
