Welcome to Monterrey

Monterrey is a big, busy city in Mexico. It is the capital of the state called Nuevo León. Monterrey is very important because many big companies have offices there. It is one of the richest cities in Latin America.

The city of Monterrey has over one million people living in it. But when you count all the people living around it, there are more than five million. This big group of cities and towns is called the Monterrey metropolitan area.

Monterrey is close to the border with the United States. This helps it have strong ties with American businesses. The city is also known for having a good quality of life, especially in the nearby suburb of San Pedro Garza García.

Fun Things to See

Monterrey has many interesting places to visit. One is the Macroplaza, which is one of the largest city squares in the world. It has green spaces, monuments, and beautiful buildings. Another fun spot is the Cerro de la Silla, a mountain that looks like a saddle. People like to hike there and enjoy the view.

The city also has a special river called the Santa Lucía artificial river. It connects different parts of the city and has parks along its sides. You can also visit the Fundidora Park, which has old factory buildings, lakes, and places to play.

Tasty Foods

Monterrey has its own special foods. One popular dish is cabrito, which is young goat cooked over fire. Another favorite is machacado con huevo, made from dried beef mixed with eggs. Families often cook carne asada on weekends, which is grilled meat served with onions, potatoes, and sausages.

There are also sweet treats like "Glorias" and "obleas", made from goat milk. These are special desserts that people in Monterrey enjoy.

Sports and Games

Monterrey loves sports! The city has two famous football teams: the C.F. Monterrey and the Tigres UANL. Their games are very exciting, and many people watch them together in bars, clubs, or at home.

The city has also hosted big international events, like matches in the 1986 FIFA World Cup and the 2026 FIFA World Cup. There are also places for other sports, like baseball, basketball, and even rock-climbing near the city.
