Mount Tomanivi

Mount Tomanivi is the tallest mountain in Fiji. It stands very high at 1,324 metres, or 4,344 feet. People also once called it Mount Victoria. The mountain is part of the beautiful island of Viti Levu.
The mountain is an old volcano that does not erupt anymore. On its slopes grows a special forest called a montane forest. This cool, high-up forest helps keep many birds safe and happy.
A big area around the mountain, called the Greater Tomaniivi Important Bird Area, protects special birds. One of these is the red-throated lorikeet, a bright and lovely bird. Other birds that live there include long-legged warblers, the shy ground-dove, and the pink-billed parrotfinch.
Many important rivers, like the Rewa, Navua, Sigatoka, and Ba, start their journey from the central mountains near Mount Tomanivi. This makes the mountain very important for the water in Fiji.
