Viti Levu: The Big Island of Fiji
Viti Levu is the largest island in Fiji. It is very special because it is home to Suva, the capital city of Fiji. Most people in Fiji live on this island. The name Viti Levu means “Great Fiji” in the Fijian language.
The island is tall and green with mountains in the middle. The highest point is Mount Tomanivi, also called Mount Victoria. It stands at 1,324 metres tall. The east side of the island gets lots of rain and has thick, tropical forests. The west side is drier and is great for growing sugar cane.
Viti Levu has many lovely places to visit. Nadi has an important airport, and Natadola Beach has a famous resort. The island also has the biggest insect in the world, the Giant Fijian long-horned beetle. Many people live in towns like Ba, Lautoka, and Nausori.
Viti Levu is very important to Fiji’s history, culture, and everyday life for many people.
