Meet the Mouse

A mouse is a tiny, friendly animal that belongs to the rodent family. Mice have a pointy nose, little round ears, and a smooth tail. They are very small, often smaller than rats. The most common mouse you might see is the house mouse (Mus musculus), which sometimes visits homes looking for food and a warm place to stay.

Some people love keeping mice as pets. Pet mice can be different sizes from wild mice because of special care and food. They are playful and enjoy being held. When kept as pets, mice live in a cozy cage and eat special food pellets, vegetables, and sometimes sweet treats.

Mice are found all around the world, living in forests, fields, and even cities. They are very good at surviving because they can live in many different places. Scientists also use special white lab mice to learn about biology and health, because mice are similar to humans in many ways.

Mice are part of a big animal group called murines, which also includes common rats. Some other types of mice are the Brush mouse, Florida mouse, Golden mouse, and Wood mouse. Each kind of mouse has its own special home and habits.

Even though some animals like cats, foxes, and snakes might catch mice, mice are still very common. Their ability to live almost anywhere helps them stay safe and happy. Mice are one of the most successful mammalian groups on Earth today!
