The Book of Mozi
The Mozi is an old book from China. It was written a long time ago, during a time called the Warring States period. The book shares ideas from a person named Mozi, who taught people to treat everyone fairly and to think clearly.
People like to read the Mozi because it has simple words and fun stories. Some parts talk about how to make good leaders and help towns stay safe. Other parts show us how people lived many years ago.
Even though some pages of the old book are missing, it is still very important. It helps us learn about old Chinese ideas and ways of life. Scholars and readers enjoy studying the Mozi to understand history better.
The book is named after Mo Di, called “Mozi,” which means “Master Mo.” He lived in the 5th century BC and traveled to talk to rulers. Some think he came from the State of Lu or the State of Song. People believe he may have been a skilled worker, maybe even a carpenter.
Today, many people have translated the Mozi into different languages so everyone can read it. Famous translators include Burton Watson and A. C. Graham. The book’s ideas about fairness and clear thinking still inspire new readers.
