The National Zoo of Malaysia

The National Zoo of Malaysia, also called Zoo Negara, is a big and fun place to visit. It is in Ulu Klang, near the city of Kuala Lumpur in Malaysia. The zoo sits on 110 acres of green space and opened its doors in 1963. It was opened by the country's first prime minister, Tunku Abdul Rahman.

Animals and Exhibits

Zoo Negara is home to many interesting animals from all over the world. You can see Asian elephants named Siti, Sibol, and Teriang. There is also a Reptile Park where you can see big saltwater crocodiles and Aldabra giant tortoises. The Bird Aviary has many colorful birds, and there is even a special area for fruit bats.

In 2014, the zoo opened a Giant Panda Conservation Centre. Two pandas named Xing Xing and Liang Liang were on display, and later their baby pandas Yi Yi and Nuan Nuan joined them too!

Fun Things to Do

The zoo has fun shows with sea lions and colorful birds. These shows happen twice a day. On weekends, you can take train rides and go on guided tours. There is also a Mini Bee Museum where you can learn about different kinds of bees.

Near the main entrance, there is a Multi-Animal Photo Corner where visitors can take pictures with snakes, tiny horses, and birds on weekends.

Helping Animals

Zoo Negara helps animals that are in danger. It has helped more than 200 milky storks birds to live safely in the wild again. The zoo also works with the local Wildlife Department to care for other special animals like hornbills.
