Pacifica is a cozy city in San Mateo County, California. It sits right by the Pacific Ocean, between the big city of San Francisco and the small town of Half Moon Bay. The name Pacifica means “Peaceful” in Spanish.

A Bit of History

Long ago, before many people lived there, two villages of the Ohlone people called Pruristac and Timigtac were in Pacifica. In 1769, an explorer named Gaspar de Portolà saw the San Francisco Bay from Pacifica. This was very important because it was the only big, safe harbor on the coast at the time.

Pacifica is a wonderful place for outdoor activities. You can go surfing at Pacifica State Beach, where dogs can even try to surf! Rockaway Beach is perfect for walking, shopping, and enjoying tasty food. There are also many trails for hiking and mountain biking.
