Port Vila

Port Vila is the capital city of Vanuatu. It is the largest city in the country and sits on the island of Efate. The city is busy and full of life, with many people living and working there.

Port Vila is an important place for trade and travel. It has a big harbour and an airport called Bauerfield International Airport. People from many places visit Port Vila, especially from Australia and New Zealand.

The city has many interesting sights. You can see beautiful buildings, colorful paintings on walls, and learn about the local culture at the Vanuatu Cultural Centre. Football is very popular in Port Vila, and the city has teams that play in local leagues.

Port Vila is also known for its warm, tropical weather. It is rainy most of the year, but the temperature stays comfortable. The city is a mix of different cultures, with people speaking languages like Bislama, English, and French.

In August 2024, Jenny Regenvanu became the first woman mayor of Port Vila. She helps lead the city with her deputy, Marie Louise Milne. The city is divided into parts, and people elect a council to make decisions about schools, parks, and roads.

Port Vila has friendly connections with cities around the world, like Bora-Bora in French Polynesia and Shanghai in China. These connections help bring visitors and learn about different cultures.
