The Beautiful Province of León

León is a lovely province in northwestern Spain. It is part of the Region of León and the autonomous community of Castile and León. Many people, about 463,746, live here. The biggest city is also called León.

León has a dry climate. Winters are cold, and summers are warm. This nice weather helps grow great wines and tasty foods like Morcilla and Cecina.

Two famous Roman Catholic cathedrals can be found in León, one in the city of León and another in Astorga. The province also shares the beautiful Picos de Europa National Park with Cantabria and Asturias. There are 211 towns and cities in the whole province.

Long ago, this area was part of the Kingdom of León, which started in 910 A.D. Leaders from Asturias moved to León and made it important. In 1188, León had one of the first Parliaments in Europe, called the Cortes de León. Today, people still remember these interesting times.
