The Rhine River

The Rhine is one of the biggest rivers in Europe. It starts high up in the Swiss Alps in Switzerland. From there, it flows through many countries, including Liechtenstein, Austria, France, and Germany. Finally, it reaches the Netherlands and ends in the North Sea.

People have used the Rhine for travel and trade for thousands of years. It is very important for moving things between countries. Big cities like Cologne, Rotterdam, and Strasbourg are along its banks.

The Rhine is also known for having one of the most powerful waterfalls in Europe, called the Rhine Falls. The river’s name comes from an old word that means “to move, flow, run,” showing how it has always been a busy, moving waterway.

Many places and even some countries get their names from the Rhine. It has been a friend and helper to many people for a very long time.
