The Rhombicuboctahedron
The rhombicuboctahedron is a very special and pretty shape. It has 26 faces: 8 are triangles, and 18 are squares. This shape was named a long time ago by a smart man named Johannes Kepler, who loved studying space and numbers.
People love this shape because it looks the same on every side. It is one of the Archimedean solids, which means it is very balanced and symmetrical. You can see shapes like this in old buildings, fun toys, and even in art!
One cool fact is that if you turn the rhombicuboctahedron inside out, you get another special shape called the deltoidal icositetrahedron, which is a type of Catalan solid. This shape can also be made by starting with a cube and adding triangles and squares in just the right way.
You might spot the rhombicuboctahedron in places like the National Library in Minsk or on some Rubik's Cube designs. Itβs a shape that many people find fascinating because of how perfect and balanced it looks.
