Same-sex marriage in Liechtenstein
Liechtenstein is a small country in Europe. In January 2025, it became legal for two people of the same gender to get married there. This was a big change for the country.
Before 2025, same-sex couples could have something called a registered partnership. This started in 2011 after people voted for it. In a partnership, couples could share many rights, like living together and having a shared family name.
In 2024, the people in Liechtenstein decided to change the law. The parliament voted, and Prince Aloys agreed. Now, anyone who loves each other can get married, no matter if they are a man or a woman.
Most people in Liechtenstein support same-sex marriage. Surveys show that more than half of the people think it is a good idea. This shows that many people in the country care about fairness and love.
Liechtenstein was the 22nd country in Europe and the 37th in the world to allow same-sex marriage. It is one of the smaller countries to make this change, and it shows how ideas about love and family are changing around the world.
