San Diego International Airport

San Diego International Airport is a big place where airplanes take off and land. It is in San Diego, California, near the Pacific Ocean. This airport is very special because it has only one runway but is the busiest one-runway airport in the United States.

The airport is owned and run by the San Diego County Regional Airport Authority. It is a center for Alaska Airlines and has flights to many places around the world.

Long ago, the land where the airport is now was part of the San Diego River delta. The river used to flow into San Diego Bay, but later it changed its path. The airport opened in 1928 and was named after Charles Lindbergh, who flew alone across the Atlantic in his airplane, the Spirit of St. Louis.

Today, the airport has two terminals and many gates for airplanes. It also has buses, taxis, and ride-shares to help people get to and from the airport. The airport is busy with lots of travelers every year, making it a very important place for San Diego.
