South Africa is surrounded by the Indian Ocean and is next to five other countries: Namibia, Botswana, Zimbabwe, Mozambique, and Eswatini. It also surrounds a tiny country called Lesotho. The country has nine provinces, and its big cities include Johannesburg, Cape Town, and Durban.

South Africa is known for its rich variety of cultures, languages, and religions. People often call it the "rainbow nation" because of this diversity. It has the largest economy in Africa and is known for its beautiful landscapes, wildlife, and famous wines.
