Meet the Southern River Otter

The southern river otter is a playful animal that lives in the beautiful Patagonia area. These otters love to swim and explore in rivers and lakes. They are special and important to many people who study nature.

Southern river otters are medium-sized with dark brown fur on top and lighter fur on their bellies. They usually live in family groups, with a mother and her babies. These otters eat fish, crustaceans, and mollusks, making them great hunters in the water.

These otters need safe homes with lots of plants and trees to stay hidden. Even though they are called "river" otters, they can also swim in the ocean. People are working hard to protect them because there are not many left. Scientists are studying them to help keep these wonderful animals safe for the future.
