The Spanish Empire

The Spanish Empire was a big group of lands ruled by Spain. It started in 1492 and grew very large. At its biggest, it covered lots of places around the world.

It began when Christopher Columbus sailed to new lands. Spain took control of many areas, including the Caribbean Islands, parts of South America, Central America, and North America. People from Spain lived in these places and built towns.

The Spanish Empire is remembered because it was very rich. Mines in places like Zacatecas and Potosí gave lots of gold and silver. This made Spain one of the most powerful countries long ago.

Today, we can still see the Spanish Empire's influence. Many people speak Spanish because of this empire. Places like Mexico and Peru have buildings and traditions that started during Spanish rule. The Spanish Empire helped shape the world we live in today.
