Springer Mountain
Springer Mountain is a big, round-shaped mountain in the Blue Ridge Mountains. It is in the Chattahoochee National Forest, right on the edge of Fannin and Gilmer counties. The mountain is about 3,770 feet tall and has very pretty views.
People love Springer Mountain because it is the start of two famous hiking trails. Many hikers begin their adventure here on the Appalachian Trail, which goes all the way north to Maine. It is also the start of the Benton MacKaye Trail, a fun path for exploring the area.
The name Springer Mountain might come from an early settler named William G. Springer or Georgia’s first Presbyterian minister, John Springer. People have called it Springer Mountain since 1910.
Near the top of Springer Mountain, there is a special bronze plaque with the Appalachian Trail logo. Hikers can sign a book there and see a unique marker. The mountain is a peaceful place to enjoy nature and go on adventures.
