Tawang

Tawang is a beautiful town in the state of Arunachal Pradesh in India. It is a special place for many people because of its calm and snowy scenery.

Tawang is famous for its big and old Buddhist Monastery. This monastery is very important to many people. The name Tawang means “chosen by horse” in Tibetan. This name comes from a sweet story about a horse helping to choose the spot for the monastery a long time ago.

The town is high up in the mountains, about 3,000 metres above sea level. It is very cold there, especially in winter. Tawang is a quiet place where visitors can enjoy the quiet mountains and learn about Buddhist traditions.

People can visit Tawang by road. The nearest big cities are Guwahati and Tezpur. Tawang is also close to beautiful spots like Sela Pass and Sangetsar Tso, where visitors can see lovely lakes and snowy hills.
