The Bahamas
The Bahamas is a beautiful country made up of many islands in the Atlantic Ocean. It has over 3,000 islands, but only about 30 of them have people living on them. The country is north of Cuba, southeast of Florida in the United States, and northwest of Hispaniola.
Nassau is the capital city and the biggest city in the Bahamas. It is located on the island of New Providence. The islands are known for their lovely beaches, clear water, and warm weather. Many people visit the Bahamas every year to relax and enjoy the sun.
The name "Bahamas" comes from the Taíno people who lived there long ago. They called one of the islands "Bahama," which means "large upper middle island." The Bahamas has a rich history. Explorer Christopher Columbus arrived in 1492 and met the Lucayan people. Later, English settlers came and started a new community.
Today, the Bahamas is famous for its beautiful beaches and friendly people. It is a place where many come to enjoy the ocean and learn about its wonderful history.
