The Winter's Tale
The Winter's Tale is a play written by William Shakespeare. It was first published in 1623 in a book called the First Folio. People love this play because it has both serious moments and a happy ending.
The story begins in two places: Sicily and Bohemia. Two kings, Leontes of Sicily and Polixenes of Bohemia, are old friends. Leontes worries too much and thinks something wrong is happening, which makes everyone very sad.
In the story, a baby girl named Perdita is lost but found by a kind shepherd. She grows up happy with the shepherd and his family. Many years later, Perdita meets Florizel, the prince of Bohemia, and they fall in love. At first, their families are worried, but in the end, everything is happy again.
The play has been performed many times by famous actors. One famous version was made by David Garrick in the 1700s, called Florizel and Perdita. People still enjoy watching The Winter's Tale today because of its wonderful story and characters.
