Vancouver Island
Vancouver Island is a big, beautiful island in the Pacific Ocean. It is part of Canada, in the province of British Columbia. This island is the largest one along the west coast of the Americas. It is about 456 kilometres long and up to 100 kilometres wide.
The southern part of Vancouver Island has a warm climate. Some places grow special crops like olives and lemons. Many people live here—over 864,000! Almost half of them live near a city called Victoria, which is the capital of British Columbia. Other towns include Nanaimo, Campbell River, Courtenay, Port Alberni, and Parksville.
A long time ago, Indigenous peoples lived on Vancouver Island. They had their own languages and cultures, very connected to the land. The island got its name from talks between Spanish and British explorers in 1792. Today, Vancouver Island is a wonderful place with forests, mountains, and beaches.
People enjoy many activities here, like fishing, watching whales, and hiking. The island also has farms, technology companies, and beautiful cities to visit. Ferries help people travel to and from the island, and there are airports for flying in and out. Vancouver Island is a special home to many and a popular place for visitors from around the world.
