What is Yin and Yang?
Yin and yang is a special idea from old Chinese philosophy. It talks about two opposite but matching forces that work together to make the whole world. These two forces are called yin and yang.
Yin is quiet, passive, and gentle, like the shady side of a hill. Yang is active, strong, and bright, like the sunny side of a hill. Together, they help everything in nature change and stay balanced.
How It Works
In Chinese mythology, the whole universe started from a big mix of energy called qi. This energy split into yin and yang, creating all the different things we see. This idea of balance appears in many parts of life, like day and night, or hot and cold.
The concept of yin and yang is very important in many Chinese science and technology ideas. It guides practices like traditional Chinese medicine and many Chinese martial arts, such as tai chi and qigong.
Symbols and Balance
The idea of yin and yang is shown by a symbol called the taijitu. It has a black side for yin and a white side for yang. Sometimes, yang is shown as red. The symbol has two water droplets that twist and mix. This shows how yin and yang change from one to the other and always need each other to keep balance in the world.
