The Zambezi River
The Zambezi River is one of the longest rivers in Africa. It starts in Zambia and flows through many countries before reaching the Indian Ocean.
The river goes through Angola, along the border of Namibia and Botswana, and then between Zambia and Zimbabwe. Finally, it reaches Mozambique and flows into the ocean.
One of the most famous places on the Zambezi is Victoria Falls. This powerful waterfall is a big attraction for visitors. The river also has other waterfalls, like Chavuma Falls and Ngonye Falls.
The Zambezi helps provide energy. Two large dams, the Kariba Dam and the Cahora Bassa Dam, make hydroelectric power for the countries it flows through. Smaller power stations at Victoria Falls and Zengamina also help.
The Zambezi River is home to many animals. You can find hippopotamuses, crocodiles, and many kinds of birds. The areas near the river support large animals like buffalo, zebras, giraffes, and elephants. The river also has many fish species, including cichlids and catfish.
People living near the Zambezi enjoy fishing and farming. The land near the river is good for growing food. Many visitors come to see Victoria Falls and other beautiful places along the river. The Zambezi is very important to the people and animals that live near it.
