Safekipedia

Safekipedia for Teachers

A free, safe encyclopedia your students can use for research projects, reading practice, and exploring new topics.

How to use Safekipedia in the classroom

Safekipedia works just like Wikipedia, but every article is rewritten to be safe and age-appropriate. Students can search for any topic, and if it exists on Wikipedia, Safekipedia will create a child-friendly version.

The easiest way to use it: take any Wikipedia URL and replace en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ with safekipedia.com/discoverer/wiki/ (or adventurer or explorer depending on the reading level you want).

Choosing the right reading level

🌱ExplorerAges 7 and under

Very simple language, short paragraphs, gentle tone. Best for early readers or students who need supported reading.

🔭AdventurerAges 7–10

Clear explanations with real facts. Sensitive topics are acknowledged but not described in detail.

🧭DiscovererAges 10+

The most complete version. Includes causes, consequences, and historical context in calm, respectful language.

Research projects

Safekipedia is ideal for student research because:

  • Every article has real facts from Wikipedia — not dumbed-down summaries
  • Students can follow links freely without encountering inappropriate content
  • Articles are concise and focused — easier for students to extract key information
  • Multiple reading levels let you differentiate within the same classroom

Homeschool families

Safekipedia is especially useful for homeschool families who want their children to have access to a broad encyclopedia without constant supervision. Children can explore topics independently, follow their curiosity through linked articles, and learn at their own pace — all within a safe environment.

Free and no accounts needed

Safekipedia is completely free. No student accounts, no logins, no tracking. Students can start using it immediately from any device with a web browser.
