Meet the Giraffe
Giraffes are the tallest animals on Earth! They live in Africa and love to munch on leaves from tall trees. With their long necks and legs, they can reach branches that other animals can't. Their fur has beautiful spots, and they have special horn-like bumps on their heads called ossicones.
Giraffes live in places called savannahs and woodlands. You can find them from Chad in the north all the way to South Africa in the south. They enjoy eating acacia trees, which have sharp thorns, but giraffes have a long, tough tongue to grab the leaves safely.
These gentle giants usually stay in small groups. Females and their babies stick together, while males sometimes form their own groups. They make funny snorting sounds to talk to each other. Even though they are big, giraffes are peaceful and love to explore their home.
People have loved giraffes for thousands of years. Ancient Egyptians wrote about them, and today, they appear in many children's stories and movies. Giraffes are also special symbols for some companies and places.
Sadly, giraffe numbers have gone down because of changes to their homes and other challenges. Many countries work hard to protect them in national parks and game reserves. Scientists also watch over giraffe families to help them stay safe and healthy.
Giraffes are the national animal of Tanzania, and many people around the world admire these amazing creatures.
