Herzog August Library

The Herzog August Library is a very special place in Wolfenbüttel, a town in Lower Saxony. It holds many old and rare books and writings from the Middle Ages and early modern Europe. People come from all over the world to learn from these amazing treasures.
The library was started a long time ago by Duke Julius of Brunswick-Lüneburg. Later, it was named after Duke Augustus. Even during difficult times, the library’s collections stayed safe. Today, it has many precious items, like about 11,500 old handwritten books and 900,000 printed books.
One fun thing about the library is that it holds very special books. There is a book called the Gospels of Henry the Lion and a unique copy of Luther's Wolfenbüttel Psalter. These books help us learn about history and tell stories from long ago.
