The Jiangshanian Time

The Jiangshanian is an old time in Earth's history. It is part of the middle part of the Furongian series during the Cambrian period. This time came after the Paibian stage and before another stage called Stage 10.

Scientists know when the Jiangshanian started by looking for a special kind of animal called a trilobite. This trilobite is named Agnostotes orientalis. It first appeared about 494.2 million years ago. The Jiangshanian lasted until about 491 million years ago.

This time is named after a city called Jiangshan in Zhejiang, China. Scientists chose this place to help mark the start of this old time. During the Jiangshanian, many new sea animals were appearing in the oceans. This was a busy time for life on Earth!
