The 2023 Trentino-Alto Adige/Südtirol provincial elections happened on October 22, 2023. These elections were important because they helped choose two seats for the region of Trentino-Alto Adige/Südtirol in the Conference of Regions and Autonomous Provinces. Out of 21 seats in this group, these elections decided who would represent the people of Trentino-Alto Adige/Südtirol. This process is a key part of how the region's leaders are chosen and how they can have a voice in important decisions affecting their area.

Background

Main articles: 2018 Italian general election in Trentino-Alto Adige/Südtirol, 2018 Trentino-Alto Adige/Südtirol provincial elections, and 2022 Italian general election in Trentino-Alto Adige/Südtirol

Since the 2018 Italian general election, Trentino-Alto Adige/Südtirol saw many political changes. For the first time since the 1996 Italian general election, the centre-right coalition won over the centre-left coalition in Trentino during a general election. This shift led the Trentino Tyrolean Autonomist Party to run separately, resulting in the first win for the Maurizio Fugatti-led centre-right coalition in Trentino since the 1994 Italian general election.

In South Tyrol, the South Tyrolean People's Party lost its majority in the 2013 Trentino-Alto Adige/Südtirol provincial elections. By the 2018 general election, they had to form a coalition with Lega Alto Adige Südtirol because of the ethnischer Proporz system. In later elections, they sometimes joined forces with the centre-right instead of the centre-left.
