The Kazakhstan Men's National Ice Hockey Team is the team that represents Kazakhstan in ice hockey. It is managed by the Kazakhstan Ice Hockey Federation. As of 2025, Kazakhstan is ranked 13th in the world in ice hockey.

The team has participated in the Winter Olympics twice, in the years 1998 and 2006. They joined the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) in 1992 and played their first international match at the 1993 Men's World Ice Hockey Championships.

The Kazakhstan team often competes in the top division of the World Championship. Sometimes, they move between this elite division and the Division I level, depending on their performance. Ice hockey in Kazakhstan has grown steadily, with the national team being a proud symbol of the country's sports achievements.

History

Kazakhstan joined the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) in 1992 as one of seven former Soviet republics. Their first tournament was at the 1993 World Championship, where they started in the lowest group. They reached the top level for the first time in 1998 and have played there many times since.

The team has competed in the Winter Olympics twice, in 1998 and 2006. In 1998, they surprised everyone by winning their group and finishing eighth overall. In 2006, they finished ninth. Kazakhstan is very successful in the Asian Games, having won five times, and they are the highest-ranked Asian team. In November 2024, they also won the first ever IIHF Asia Championship. Since 2022, they have taken part in the Channel One Cup with Russia and Belarus.

The Kazakhstan Men's National Ice Hockey Team took part in the Winter Olympics in 1998 and 2006. In 1998, they finished in 8th place, and in 2006, they finished in 9th place.

The team won first place at the Asia Championship in both 2025 and 2026.

Winter Universiade

Kazakhstan's team has achieved many notable finishes in the Winter Universiade. They won silver in 1993, gold in 1995, bronze in 2007, silver in 2013, 2015, and 2017, finished fourth in 2009, 2011, and 2019, won bronze in 2023, and finished sixth in 2025.
