Tegna Inc., stylized as TEGNA, is an American company that works with broadcast and digital media. It is based in Tysons, Virginia and is fully owned by Nexstar Media Group. The company was formed on June 29, 2015, when the old Gannett Company split into two parts. One part became Tegna, focusing on television broadcasting and digital media, while the other part kept the Gannett name and focused on publishing.
At the time, Tegna owned or ran 68 television stations in 54 different areas and had websites and other digital services. It was the biggest owner of stations that show NBC programs, and it also had two special television networks called True Crime Network and Quest.
On March 19, 2026, Tegna merged with Nexstar Media Group in a deal worth $6.2 billion. This merger was approved by important government groups, but some people and companies disagreed with it and tried to stop it in court.
History
In June 2015, Gannett split into two companies. The broadcasting and digital part became Tegna, led by Gracia Martore. The split aimed to help both companies grow better in the digital world.
Tegna kept many stations and launched new services. Over the years, it made several changes, like selling some stations and buying others. In 2025, Tegna agreed to be bought by Nexstar Media Group. This deal needed approvals and faced some legal challenges, but it was completed in March 2026.

Tegna also offers other shows like Sister Circle and a reality competition called Sing Like A Star.
In January 2018, Tegna partnered with Sony Pictures Television to help with showing and selling ads for its original programs.
