The Arctic Ocean
The Arctic Ocean is the smallest and coldest ocean on Earth. It is covered with thick ice most of the year, especially in winter. This special ocean surrounds the North Pole and touches Eurasia and North America.
People have lived near the Arctic Ocean for thousands of years. Early groups like the Thule people were ancestors of today’s Inuit. Over time, explorers visited the Arctic, learning more about this icy place.
The Arctic Ocean is home to amazing animals. Polar bears walk on the ice, while seals and whales swim in the cold water. Tiny plants called phytoplankton grow under the ice and feed many other creatures.
This ocean has many important resources, like fish and possible oil and gas. Countries around the Arctic work together to protect this special place and its animals. The Arctic is also changing, with less ice each year, which affects weather all around the world.
