Arthritis

Arthritis is when the smooth parts in our joints get worn down. This can make moving hurt or feel hard. It is very common, especially as people get older.

There are different kinds of arthritis. Two big ones are osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis. Osteoarthritis often happens in places like the knees, hips, and fingers. Rheumatoid arthritis is when the body’s defense system, called the immune system, acts in a way that hurts the joints.

People with arthritis might feel pain, stiffness, or swelling in their joints. Doctors can help by checking the joints, doing tests, and giving advice on how to feel better.

There are ways to help manage arthritis. Resting, gentle exercise, and special medicines like ibuprofen or paracetamol can make a big difference. Sometimes, doctors may suggest surgery to help a joint work better.

Arthritis has been known for a very long time. Ancient people noticed it in bones, and doctors have written about it for hundreds of years. Even today, many people around the world live with arthritis, and learning about it helps us take good care of our joints.
