Who Are Baptists?

Baptists are a friendly group of people who follow Christianity. They believe in many of the same things as other Christians, but they have a few special ideas of their own. One big idea is that people should choose to believe in their own way. They also think the Bible is very important.

Baptists love to read and talk about the Bible together. They meet in churches where they share stories, sing songs, and pray. Their churches are usually simple and welcoming.

Where Did Baptists Start?

Baptist churches began in Great Britain a long time ago. Two kind men, John Smyth and Thomas Helwys, helped start the first Baptist church. They believed that churches should be separate from governments so everyone could think freely and believe what they wanted.

Today, Baptists are all around the world. You can find Baptist churches in many places, from North America to Africa and Asia. They are part of a big family called the Baptist World Alliance, which helps them stay connected.

Special Beliefs and Practices

Baptists have two special ceremonies that are very important to them: Baptism and the Lord's Supper. Baptism is when a person shows they believe in Jesus by being fully immersed in water. The Lord's Supper is a special meal that remembers Jesus.

They also believe that each person is responsible for their own relationship with God. This means everyone can make their own choices about their faith. Baptist churches often make their own decisions together, without a big group telling them what to do.

Growing Around the World

Baptist churches have grown in many countries. They help people by running schools, hospitals, and other places where they can learn and get better. For example, there is a hospital in Hong Kong that helps many people.

Baptists also send out missionaries to share their beliefs and help others around the world. This has made Baptist churches grow in places like Myanmar and Brazil. Even though they have different ideas sometimes, Baptists all believe in being kind, helpful, and respectful to everyone.
