The Bibliotheca Alexandrina

The Bibliotheca Alexandrina is a very big library and cultural center in Alexandria, Egypt. It is right by the Mediterranean Sea. This special library was built to remember an old library called the Library of Alexandria.

The Bibliotheca Alexandrina opened in 2002. When it opened, its reading room was the biggest in the whole world! It has space for eight million books. You can find books in many languages, like classical Arabic, English, and French.

This amazing place is more than just a library. It also has a conference center, special libraries, museums, art galleries, and a planetarium. There is even a lab to help fix old books. The library has a tall glass roof that looks like a sundial, reaching out toward the sea. The walls are made of gray granite with beautiful carvings from many different scripts.
