Burkina Faso

Burkina Faso is a beautiful country in West Africa. It does not touch the ocean, and it is surrounded by many friendly neighbors. To the northwest is Mali, to the northeast is Niger, and to the southeast is Benin. To the south, you will find Togo and Ghana, and to the southwest is Ivory Coast.

The land of Burkina Faso is mostly flat with some small hills. The highest point is Ténakourou, which stands at 749 meters tall. The country has three big rivers: the Black Volta, the White Volta, and the Red Volta. There are also many lakes and ponds, but fresh water can be hard to find, especially in the north.

People in Burkina Faso enjoy a warm climate with two main seasons: rainy and dry. The rainy season lasts about four months, from May to September. During the dry season, a hot wind called the harmattan blows across the land. The north gets less rain and can be very hot. Burkina Faso has three climate zones: the Sahel, the Sudan-Sahel, and the Sudan-Guinea.

Burkina Faso is home to many wonderful animals, including more elephants than many other West African countries. You can also find lions, leopards, buffalo, cheetahs, and hyenas. The country protects these animals and plants in four national parks and several reserves.

The people of Burkina Faso are known as Burkinabes. The largest group is the Mossi people, who have a long and rich history. They created kingdoms such as Ouagadougou, Tenkodogo, and Yatenga. The capital city, Ouagadougou, is named after one of these kingdoms and is the largest city in the country.

Burkina Faso has many languages, with about 69 different ones spoken. The most common language is Mooré, especially around the capital, Ouagadougou. French is also used for government work, but the country is using more of its own languages too. Other widely spoken languages include Fula, Gourmanché, Bambara, and Bissa.

Most people in Burkina Faso follow Islam, but there are also Christians and those who follow traditional beliefs. The country is known for its rich culture, with many stories, dances, and crafts. Traditional music is very popular, and there is also music in French that many people enjoy.

Burkina Faso loves sports, especially football. The national team is called "Les Etalons." Many people also enjoy basketball and cycling. In 2020, Hugues Fabrice Zango won the country’s first Olympic medal, a bronze in the men’s triple jump, making everyone proud.
