Early Life and Family

Caroline Bamberger Fuld, often called Carrie, was born on March 16, 1864, in Baltimore. She grew up in a family that loved business. Carrie had five siblings, and they all learned to work together.

Building a Big Store

In 1892, Carrie and her brother Louis Bamberger started a big department store named L. Bamberger & Co. in Newark, New Jersey. This was special because, at that time, most businesses were run by men. Carrie and her team made the store fun and easy for everyone to shop at.

Helping Others

Later in life, Carrie and Louis created the Institute for Advanced Study in Princeton, New Jersey. This place became a wonderful home for smart people to learn and share ideas. Carrie gave a lot of money to help this school grow. A special rock there, called Founders' Rock, remembers her and her brother.

Remembering Carrie

Carrie passed away on July 18, 1944, but her kindness still helps people today. Her work made the world a better place for many.
