Chena River

The Chena River is a lovely river in Alaska. It flows from the White Mountains and joins the Tanana River near a city called Fairbanks. The Tanana River then flows into the big Yukon River.

People enjoy the Chena River for many fun activities. In the warm months, families come to fish and go boating. The river has many kinds of fish, like Arctic grayling, king salmon, and northern pike. Fishing here is a special treat because the river is close to town.

When winter comes, the Chena River gets very cold and icy. But that does not stop people! Some use snowmachines or sled dogs to travel on the frozen river. It is a beautiful way to explore during the snowy months.

A dam was built on the river to help protect Fairbanks from big floods. This helps keep the town safe when there is too much water. The Chena River is a wonderful part of Alaska’s natural world, enjoyed by many every year.
