Columbus Zoo and Aquarium
The Columbus Zoo and Aquarium is a wonderful place to see animals from all over the world. It is located near the town of Powell in Liberty Township, Delaware County, Ohio, close to a big lake called the O'Shaughnessy Reservoir on the Scioto River.
This zoo became very famous because of the work of Jack Hanna, who was the director there. In 2009, it was chosen as the best zoo in the United States, and in 2012, people voted it as the top zoo again.
The zoo is home to many exciting animals. Visitors can walk through different areas that show animals from various parts of the world. There are also fun places to visit, like the Zoombezi Bay water park and a special golf course called the Safari Golf Club.
The Columbus Zoo and Aquarium also helps protect animals. It supports projects in many countries and works closely with the Wilds, a big conservation area in southeast Ohio. The zoo is also shown on a television show called Secrets of the Zoo on the Nat Geo Wild channel.
One famous animal at the zoo was Colo, the first gorilla born in a zoo. She lived to be 60 years old and had many family members at the zoo. Visitors can learn about many animals that need help and how they can support conservation efforts.
