Deg Xitʼan

The Deg Xitʼan are a group of Athabaskan people who live in Alaska. They speak a special language called Deg Xinag. Their homes are near the Anvik River, the Innoko River, and the lower Yukon River.

There are three main villages where the Deg Xitʼan live: Anvik Village, Shageluk Native Village, and Holy Cross Village. Long ago, before big roads were built, they used trails that are now famous as the Iditarod Trail.

The Deg Xitʼan share their land with many friendly neighbors, like the Yup'ik, Holikachuk, Upper Kuskokwim, and Dena'ina peoples. They are proud of their traditions and their beautiful home in Alaska.
