Flamingos: The Pink Birds

Flamingos are special birds known for their pink feathers, long legs, and long necks. They belong to a group called Phoenicopteriformes. You can find flamingos in warm places around the world, like the Caribbean, parts of Afro-Eurasia, and near shallow lakes and lagoons.

One fun fact about flamingos is that a group of them is called a “flamboyance” or a “stand.” These birds get their pink color from the tiny plants and small creatures they eat in the water. Flamingos are very social and love to stand on one leg. Scientists think they do this to save energy or to stay warm in cool water.

Flamingos are important for keeping water areas clean. They eat algae and tiny creatures, which helps keep the water clear. People love flamingos and often put bright pink plastic flamingos in their gardens. They are also the national bird of the Bahamas.

Flamingos are loved by many people around the world. They are beautiful to watch as they stand, walk, and feed in shallow water. Their pink color makes them easy to spot and even more special.
