Welcome to Ghent
Ghent is a lovely city in the Flemish Region of Belgium. It is the biggest city in East Flanders and the third largest in all of Belgium, after Brussels and Antwerp. Ghent is a busy place where people study, work, and enjoy life.
A City With History
Ghent started where the Rivers Scheldt and Leie meet. Long ago, during the Late Middle Ages, it became one of the largest and richest cities in northern Europe. Today, Ghent’s old buildings are still standing and well cared for, making it a favorite spot for visitors from all over the world.
Fun Things to See
You can walk around Ghent’s beautiful center without any cars. There are many special places to visit, like the tall belfry, the old Gravensteen castle, and the lovely buildings along the Graslei harbour. Ghent also has tasty foods such as "mastellen" bread and sweet "cuberdons" candies.
A Busy but Friendly Place
Ghent is home to many people from different countries. It has big schools, hospitals, shops, and places for events. The city also has nice parks and a large nature reserve for people to enjoy. Every year, the ten-day Ghent Festival brings lots of visitors to enjoy music, shows, and fun activities.
