The Grey Cup
The Grey Cup is a special sports game in Canada. It is the biggest yearly sports event there. The game is played between two teams that win their parts of the Canadian Football League (CFL). The team that wins gets a shiny trophy called the Grey Cup.
The game is very popular. About four million people watch it on TV every year. It is played on a Sunday in November, after Remembrance Day. Sometimes the weather can be cold and rainy, but fans still love it.
The Toronto Argonauts have won the Grey Cup the most times—19 times! The latest game, the 112th Grey Cup, was in Winnipeg, Manitoba. The Saskatchewan Roughriders won against the Montreal Alouettes.
The Grey Cup trophy was made in 1909 by The Earl Grey, who was Canada’s leader at the time. It is a silver cup with the names of winning teams and players on it. The first game was won by a team from the University of Toronto.
Every year, the host city has fun events before the game. There are concerts, parties, and a special parade. Fans love to come together to cheer for their teams. The Grey Cup brings excitement and joy to everyone in Canada.
