Hampton Court Palace
Hampton Court Palace is a very old and special building in England. It is in the London Borough of Richmond upon Thames, about 12 miles from central London, close to the River Thames. This palace has a long and interesting history.
The palace was first built in 1514 for a man named Cardinal Thomas Wolsey. He was an important helper to King Henry VIII. Later, the king took the palace for himself and made it one of his favorite homes.
In the 1690s, two more kings, William III and Queen Mary II, made the palace even bigger and more beautiful. They wanted it to look like another famous palace called the Palace of Versailles in France. Today, the palace has a mix of old and new styles, all tied together by pink bricks.
Visitors can see many wonderful things at Hampton Court Palace. There is art from the Royal Collection, a very tricky garden path called the Hampton Court Maze, a special royal tennis court, and the world’s biggest grape vine. The palace is taken care of by a group called Historic Royal Palaces.
People love to visit Hampton Court Palace to learn about history and see beautiful gardens and art. It is a place where you can imagine life hundreds of years ago and enjoy fun activities like finding your way out of the maze!
